So, I got my router today
I'm so happy, it works great!!
Besides the fact, that I can't connect with SSH...
I get 'ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.1 port 22: Connection refused' everytime
What to do?
Oh, I see!
But I would have to do a factory reset to fix the issue?
And when done with factory reset, how do I know it's gonna work/what do I have to do differently?
On the original versions of Turris there is a micro-USB port for serial console access (hidden inside the box in Turris 1.0). Omnia will have such a port as well. Unfortunately I have no idea where as I'm still waiting for my box
.... maybe it's one of the two USB-A ports (front/back)? To access it you'll need a console application (for example minicom on Linux or PuTTY on Windows)
I'll give it a try!
Another way is to let the router start. You should access http interface (luci) of the router. Enter commands to the System->Custom commands and run it from the web interface.
Oh yeah, that's a great idea!
I tried it, it didn't work.
But I get a "Command successful (Code: 0)" after the command has run.
Actually, this did work!
The files was deleted, but I still can't login with SSH
After deleting the broken files (size 0), you have to recreate them (ssh-keygen -A) and then to start the server (/etc/init.d/sshd start).
Certainly the most painful problem I got on my Omnia!
As an workaround you can disable sshd in startup and install and enable the dropbear ssh server.
Would that make any difference to how the router runs?
Is sshd required by anything else on the router?
You can login via ssh/putty delete the keys /etc/ssh/ssh_host_* and then switch back to sshd.
The files was actually deleted, but I still can't login with SSH if sshd is enabled
So back to my question:
Does everything run as they should with dropbear enabled instead of sshd?
Did you restart the sshd service or the router after you deleted the files? They are regenerated if they do not exist from the sshd start script. Can't tell you if there are packages installed whom rely on opensshd, just received the router and started inspecting.
I have both the service and the router - Doesn't work
But with dropbear it works just fine
Oh, sure! Go play around with it!
